19 Apr VINITALY, BEER AND TOURISM
This year, Vinitaly hosted for the first time a pavilion entirely dedicated to beer, Xcellent Beers. The largest group of participants was the Consorzio Birra Italiana (Italian Beer Consortium), which, together with Coldiretti, presented a survey revealing that almost one in five travelers visited a brewery or participated in a beer-related event in the last year. The Italian Beer Consortium, representing 26% of the country’s craft breweries, aims to launch this year “Open Breweries,” a national event promoting breweries with Italian agricultural supply chains, as well as to create at least one beer trail in each region of Italy.
The Italian craft beer supply chain comprises 1,182 production activities nationwide, providing employment to approximately 93,000 workers from field to table. Consumption of this beverage is expected to surpass the historical record of around 38 liters per capita this year, totaling – according to the Italian Beer Consortium and Coldiretti – 2.2 billion liters and generating a turnover volume of 9.5 billion euros considering all productions.
